The Northern Drawbridge to the Citadel in Copenhagen
The Citadel is a fort and army barracks surrounded by a moat and crossed by several bridges overlooking Copenhagen harbour. Købke's father ran the bakery in the Citadel until 1833, when the family moved away from Copenhagen. Købke probably painted this for his mother as a souvenir of her former home.
