Joseph predicted that seven years of famine would follow seven years of plenty. He is seated on a triumphal car on the left while his brothers, who do not recognise him, kneel to beg for food. Grain is distributed on the right. Inscriptions proclaiming Joseph as Saviour emphasise a traditional parallel between his life and that of Christ.
