An Old Man in an Armchair

Formerly accepted as by Rembrandt, this work was later attributed to a follower because it differs in execution from his portraits of the period. However, it is most probably a character study, and it has recently been proposed that it represents an experimental step in Rembrandt's development towards the rough manner of his later works.
