A Man, probably of the Strauss Family
The man holds a paper inscribed in German: 'The word of our God shall stand for ever'. The text implies that, by contrast, human life is brief. The coat of arms on one of the rings on his forefinger is probably that of the Strauss family of Cologne, where Bruyn worked. The man's exact identity is unknown.
