Still Life with Lemons in a Wicker Basket

This imposing still life has a basket of freshly-picked lemons at its centre. A goldfinch perches delicately on the lip of a porcelain bowl filled with water, in which a single lily floats. The cup of water, which probably symbolises the Virgin's purity, also appears in A Cup of Water and a Rose nearby, by the artist's father Francisco.
