Colonel Tarleton

Banastre Tarleton wears the uniform of the cavalry division known as Tarleton's Green Horse while commanding the British Legion during the American War of Independence. As Reynolds discreetly shows, the colonel had lost two fingers of his right hand the year before. Later, as MP for Liverpool, Tarleton argued against the abolition of the slave trade.
