In dieser Studie werden Tonalität und Lichtstreuung auf Kosten der Details betont. Aligny entwickelte diesen besonderen Ansatz zum Malen und Zeichnen nach der Natur in den 1820er Jahren, zunächst zusammen mit seinem Begleiter Camille Corot in Italien und später im Wald von Fontainebleau in seiner Heimat Frankreich. Die hier gezeigte Ansicht wurde möglicherweise im Park des Schlosses Mortefontaine in der Nähe von Senlis, nordöstlich von Paris, skizziert, das Aligny 1850 und 1851 besuchte.

In this study, tonality and the dispersal of light are emphasized at the expense of detail. Aligny developed this distinctive approach to painting and drawing from nature in the 1820s, first alongside his companion Camille Corot in Italy and later in the Forest of Fontainebleau in his native France. The view seen here may have been sketched in the park of the château of Mortefontaine near Senlis, northeast of Paris, which Aligny visited in 1850 and 1851.
